More Info:
Inside the Artist’s Kitchen is an online arts journal that documents artists making work in our beautiful and multifaceted community, Chicago, IL. Over the course of eating delicious food and having incredible conversations, it became evident that there was an opportunity to provide a new, easily accessible platform to support artists in creating new work. With that in mind, we launched our Digital Residency program in the summer of 2014.
Our inaugural Digital Resident, Kiam Marcelo Junio, has spent the past year exploring Filipino identity in Filipino Fusions. In this web series, Kiam’s alter ego Jerry Blossom demonstrates a vegan take on Filipino cuisine while discussing Filipino history and culture. We were able to film this series through the generous support of Surmount Studios, Upton’s Naturals, and Cody Copeland.

As a capstone project, we are collaborating with Kiam on an artist’s cookbook that will serve as a physical Manifestation of thier work during the Digital Residency. The book will have the delicious recipes featured on Filipino Fusions, and it will include additional exploration of the themes of colonization, migration, occupation and diaspora brought up over the course of the series.
[All donations and pre-orders will go directly to funding a small print run of Filipino Fusions: A Culinary Critique, fair artist fees, and the continuation of the Digital Residency Program]
